About
Welcome to Primrose - Washington, a culinary gem nestled in the vibrant Brookland neighborhood of Washington, DC. Located at 3000 12th St NE, this restaurant is a delightful fusion of neighborhood charm and big-city dining. It's a place where every meal becomes a memorable experience, characterized by its incredible attention to detail and a warm, inviting ambiance.
Primrose's menu is thoughtfully curated, offering a tempting array of French-inspired dishes that cater to a wide range of tastes. Whether you are a fan of classic favorites or adventurous culinary explorations, you'll find something to love. The French Onion Soup, with its perfectly caramelized onions and a generous crust of Coulter Farms Gruyere, is a standout—rich, warm, and utterly comforting. For those craving something lighter, the Winter Citrus Salad is a refreshing tribute to seasonal ingredients, marrying kale and cabbage with the bright flavors of citrus and duck confit.
And let's not overlook the star of the show: the steak. One visitor noted its perfect doneness and seasoning, while another remarked on how the greens accompanied it so well that they nearly stole the spotlight. The care to prepare every dish not only enhances the flavors but also highlights the chefs’ skills and commitment to quality.
If you're looking to unwind with friends or celebrate a special occasion, Primrose has you covered with an excellent selection of wines. Choose from the Bottle O' White, Bottle O' Red, or Bottle O' Sparkling, all offered at a reasonable price of $40.99. It’s a perfect way to elevate your dining experience while enjoying the cozy, candlelit atmosphere that warms the heart.
Every aspect of dining at Primrose echoes the sentiment of its patrons: a friendly staff dedicated to ensuring that each guest has a pleasurable experience, from accommodating dietary restrictions to providing impeccable service with a smile. As one guest mentioned, it’s not just about the food; it’s the whole vibe—relaxed yet refined.
In summary, Primrose - Washington is more than just a restaurant; it’s a community hub where food, friends, and great wine come together. I highly recommend stopping by—whether you're a local or just passing through DC, this eatery offers a delightful escape into culinary bliss.
“ We celebrated our anniversary in this welcoming restaurant. Everyone was very friendly and the restaurant had a neighborhood vibe but big city menu. We enjoyed a delicious dinner of French onion soup with a fantastic crust and no sogginess, steak and halibut were cooked just right. They also made sure to accommodate my allergies. Dessert was yummy to finish out the meal. Plus they offer a nice variety of tasty wines. Highly recommended and it was so relaxing. ”
“ Exploring French cuisine was never high on my list but this was a great experience. The decor, staff and vibe of this place is very nice. Not a big menu but from small plates, entrees through dessert everything is solid. When crowded it can get a little loud but a nice addition to the Brookland community. ”
“ The Primrose has turned into a very special spot for my family when coming to visit DC. Fabulous customer service, the coffee is exceptional, the ambiance is lovely, brunch is dreamy ”
“ The food was SO GOOD. I know that the steak is the star in this plate, but the greens were so well seasoned and tasty that they almost stole the scene. Cozy atmosphere and gentle staff. Great experience, overall. ”
“ Excellent food. Something for everyone (fish, steak, pasta, gluten-free, vegan). All of our meals looked, smelled and tasted amazing, simply delicious (try the cassoulet). Staffed by sincerely friendly and knowledgeable servers and bartenders (probably the best Manhattan I have had in my life). We dined in the evening and the candlelit ambience was warm and welcoming. Whether you are dressed up or dressed casual, you won't feel out of place. I look forward to returning and recommend this to locals and anyone visiting this part of DC. ”
“ a true gem that needs to be experienced! I love the atmosphere and the new glass porch is stunning. The place is great for families, friends and date nights. the service is outstanding -friendly without being pushy. the food is really the star. the menu changes often enough, but there are always favorites. last night I had the mussels with some of the best fries ever and it was all cooked perfectly. There is an amazing wine list and the prices are reasonable. One of the best restaurants in town! ”
“ This is easily one of our favorite local spots. The service is always excellent, with attentive management that makes you feel at home. Their rotating menu is consistently creative and delicious, and the wine selection is top-notch. It has a unique, cozy ambiance, and it’s the perfect place for a relaxed yet classy dining experience. ”
“ This is our neighborhood spot, and I could not be more grateful to Sebastian and his team. Without fail, we have spectacular meals EVERY time we eat at Primrose. Recently (early July 2025) had one of the best dishes ever , the oyster mushroom risotto - was spectacular, and it easily ranked top 5 of my life. We regularly dine with our 14 month old , and it is such a welcoming atmosphere. I’m not sure I’ve ever experienced a place that offers such fine dining , yet caters and is so accepting of children. This is THE place for date night and you don’t need a babysitter because the menu and the atmosphere is welcoming of the littles. And the on tap iteration of the French 75 has been my go to drink for years! Vive la Primrose ! ”
